Job Title: Traveling Exhibits Coordinator

Appointment: Full-time [two-year appointment; continuation dependent on funding]

Reports to: Education Manager

Other Regular Relationships: CHF staff, consultants, volunteers, interns, scholars, and visitors; senior representatives of museums, libraries, archives, and other organizations; donors and CHF audiences.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The Roy Eddleman Institute is the CHF component charged with outreach to audiences identified in the CHF strategic plan. In collaboration with the education and collections managers and the director, assist in cultivating and negotiating with partner institutions to develop and mount traveling exhibits on the history of the chemical and molecular sciences. Manage the traveling exhibits portfolio by scheduling venues, negotiating with host or partner organizations. Perform registration duties regarding traveling and other exhibits. Participate in the intellectual development of all exhibits. Moderate travel is required.

Specific Tasks:

Manage CHF’s current traveling exhibits, mostly two dimensional panel-based exhibits.

Provide all of the registration work regarding the creation of new exhibits, mostly three dimensional, including:

Planning the costing, packing, and crating of new traveling exhibits

Reviewing and scheduling venues for such exhibits.

Tracking the movement of exhibits.

Condition reporting.

Travel with select exhibits to host sites to oversee installation

Liaise with mount makers and installers as needed.

Contribute to all phases of in-house and traveling exhibit planning.

Participate in traveling exhibit teams by providing logistical expertise.

Assist with loans for in-house exhibits as needed.

Assist in identifying and collecting materials of all kinds relevant to this historical collection, as occasion requires.

Assist in the creation of relevant web-based and print materials.

Contribute to the advancement of CHF’s mission at large by sitting on institution-wide committees, helping to staff public programs such as affiliates events and conferences, or participating in research projects, at the discretion of the director.

Other duties as assigned.

Professional Requirements:

M.A. in museum studies, art history, history or related field required, or relevant combination of experience and education.

Two years full-time curatorial and registration experience required. Three years experience with traveling exhibits preferred.

Ability to oversee installation of traveling exhibits.

Organized and attentive to detail.

Exacting proofreading and editorial skills.

Well-developed research skills.

Excellent oral and written expression.

Computer literacy, including experience with Internet-based research.

Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.

Customer-service orientation.

Capable of functioning as a team member.
