Dear Museum-L,

I'm not a museum professional myself -- unless you count a summer as a tour guide at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont -- but I am a freelance writer and editor with a passionate interest in history and art.

I'm always looking for ways to write about my passions, so I thought I would ask all of you: do museum staffs ever hire outside writers? Between exibitions, educational programs, ads, press releases, planning documents, grants, and web content, I figure there's always something that needs doing. And I hate the thought of otherwise great ideas sitting in a drawer somewhere for lack of someone to do them.

If any of you that could give me some guidence about the ins and outs of museums and written materials, I would love to hear from you. You can contact me through this list or off-list at [log in to unmask]

Kindest regards,

Heather Michon
