Position: Collections Assistant Starting date: ASAP Duration: 6 months Stipend: $9,500 Reporting to and working closely with the Collections Manager, the collections assistant will work on the ongoing automation project and subsequent inventory of the Bennington Museum collection. More specifically, the intern will specialize in textile and costume research. Numbering over 60,000 items, the museum collection includes such diverse items as fine art, decorative art, archives, photographs, ephemera, historical objects, and much more. Many of these objects are simply not recorded and will require complete cataloging. The collections assistant will also be working with a staff of dedicated volunteers and undergraduate interns. The collections assistant should have a working knowledge of modern cataloging practices, care and handling, and preventative conservation. Computer proficiency is a must for this position. Preference given to students currently enrolled in, or who have recently completed, a graduate degree program and have specific interest and/or experience with textile handling and research.
