Jim, It's not really a matter of argument. It's really a matter of data and evidence. There are a lot of word origin stories out there that simply are not supported by the data/evidence. And the actual origins usually are more interesting. Word history is like any other kind of history: there are the stories handed down and then there's the data from records and documents.
