My first thought was you had this backwards: most herbivore eggs I've seen are elongated, while theropod (carnivore) eggs are round. It turns out there are exceptions to this, as far as herbivores are concerned anyway: they can range from elongate to spherical. I don't know of any theropod eggs that are elongate, but they may exist. The shape may have more to do with pelvic shape than diet, as Jeff suggested.

Subject: A question about dinosaur eggs

I attended AAM last week and spent some time at the Indianapolis Children's Museum Dinosphere exhibit (retrofitted giant screen venue).

One of the displays showed eggs of herbivore dinosaurs (spherical eggs) and carnivore dinosaurs (elongated eggs).  Nowhere did they explain the shape difference. Anybody got the answer?
Thanks
