As a member of DEMHIST, ICOM's International Committee for Historic House Museums, I am happy to pass on the announcement of its upcoming conference (12-14 October 2005) in Lisbon, Portugal, to you.

The theme for this conference is "Safe keepers of memory: conservation of buildings and their collections."

Historic house museums are not only historic structures, but are also historic collections: the two form an indivisible whole, and need to be considered as such. Within this context of the historic house museum as an indivisibile whole, the conference will address such best museum practice issues as risk assessment, conservation, restoration, ethics of accessioning and de-accessioning, and outreach--too often limited by space and resources--to identified audiences, etc.

Those interested in participating should contact DEMHIST directly, as an abstract and short c.v. are necessary before June 1: Maria de Jesus Monge ([log in to unmask]) or Dr. Hugh Maguire ([log in to unmask]

Please forgive cross-postings, and I send you my best regards,

Star Meyer, Ph.D.
