Seasonal Employment

 

The Pejepscot Historical Society seeks two Day Managers for its historic house, the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum.  The positions are part-time beginning in late April and ending in early November, alternate weekends are required.  The salary range for the season is $3,350 to $3,800, depending on experience.

 

Qualifications:  Candidate for the position of day manager must enjoy people and interact well with the public.  Must have a commitment to customer service, superior communication and organizational skills, supervisory experience, and the ability to work with volunteers.  Must be a team player, possess a professional outlook, congenial manner, and a sense of humor.  The ideal candidates will have a BA in history or related field, certification in first aid, retail experience, and prior work experience in museums.

 

Description of duties:  the day managers are responsible for the daily operation of a historic house museum, including the safety and security of visitors and collections.  The day manager opens and closes the museum, gives tours, supervises volunteer guiding staff, oversees gift shop sales, handles daily cash-out, performs daily housekeeping, and assists with pre- and post-season preparations.  The day manager reports to the executive director and works closely with volunteers and other staff members.
