My standard has always been placing my hangers at 60”, considering that the hanger will be somewhere in the upper third of the hanging piece. General rule to which there are always exceptions and adjustments. You can use a pencil line, set up a long ruler with a t-square angle set at 60” or use one of those cool new laser levelers.
