Summer Internship Opportunity at Anasazi State Park Museum Anasazi State Park Museum is located in Boulder, UT. Boulder is a small town located in picturesque southcentral Utah between Dixie National Forest and the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. The park is also a short distance from Capital Reef National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. The area has many hiking, backpacking and camping opportunities. Within the park is one of the largest Ancestral Pueboan communities west of the Colorado River. It is believed to have been occupied from AD 1160 to 1235 and may have housed as many as 200 people. Archaeological excavations at the site have revealed more than 100 structures and have produced over 100,000 artifacts. Position Summary: This is an internship that will expose the intern to projects and duties in all areas of a state park museum. The intern will spend a certain amount of time determined at the beginning of the internship in each area of the museum: curation, interpretation, visitor services and administration. However, the focus of the internship will be a specific project chosen by the intern in either interpretation or collections management. Work is performed under general supervision of the museum curator. Duties may include: Collections management: Inventory of the museum collection, storage upgrades for museum collection, object photography, environmental and Integrated Pest Management monitoring, catalog photographs, and organize museum archives. Interpretation: Develop and conduct interpretive programs, develop interpretive materials, create a curriculum based program for school children, develop a new temporary exhibit, plan and organize a special event. Visitor services: Fee and gift shop sales collection, provide visitors with area information. Administration: Assist park manager with tasks as assigned. Qualifications: Must have a strong interest in working with collections or interpretation. Candidates must be capable of precise and detail-oriented work. A background in museum studies or archaeology is preferred. Employment Period: 10 weeks @ 40 hours per week Flexible dates between May and August. Salary: $75 a week with free housing in the park.
