Job Summary

Lyndhurst, a National Trust Historic Site in Tarrytown, NY, seeks a
Director. The site is notable historically for its architecture, past
owners, collections (11,000 objects and books displayed and stored),
stunning location along the Hudson River, and widely recognized for its
stellar interpretive programs and leadership in the museum field. The
mansion at Lyndhurst was built in 1838 with a significant addition and
furnishings designed by the original architect, A.J. Davis, in 1864-65.
Lyndhurst is a seminal example of the Gothic Revival style. The 67 acre
site includes the 40-room Gothic Revival stone mansion, stabilized
greenhouse with service building, bowling alley, carriage house complex
with museum gift and catering facility, swim tank building, gate house
residence, modern maintenance facility/ wood shop, and two other
residences on a picturesque landscape with numerous specimen trees. 

Qualifications

We seek a visionary, energetic Director who will preserve, promote and
advance the cultural importance and financial condition of the museum.
Duties: Provide strong leadership and management. Set and manage budget.
Direct fund-raising and marketing. Oversee: interpretive, curatorial,
archival, preservation, and maintenance programs. At least 5 years
museum and historic site background experience with an advanced degree
in a related field preferred. The successful candidate will be a skilled
communicator able to effect positive interaction between the museum and
the various constituencies of this culturally preeminent area. We need a
diversely talented individual with the flexibility of mind and spirit to
inspire others to carry the Lyndhurst legacy into the future.
