The presents given to him of clothing, weapons, handicrafts and ceremonial items were displayed in an Indian museum in a building next to Clark's house on First Street (now the north triangle on the Arch grounds). Unfortunately, this priceless collection was loaned for exhibition in Germany prior to Clark's death and was lost or destroyed in the 1830s.

Subject: Looking for William Clark's St. Louis Indian Museum Objects

I'm researching William Clark's 1816-1838 Indian Museum located in St. Louis.  Does anyone out there have any information on such objects in their collections?  Any information would be great.

Thanks,

Janet Wilzbach, Graduate Student University of Missouri St. Louis
