The American Jazz Museum seeks a Collections Manager with strong registrarial skills.

Reporting to the executive director, this position will accession, catalog, preserve & maintain artifacts/objects; and process, arrange, preserve & describe manuscripts, archives, photographs, audio oral history recordings, musical scores, video recordings, still and moving images and recorded sound.

Working with the executive director, will coordinate the changing exhibitions; monitor the general maintenance of permanent collection on exhibit & in storage; respond to public inquiries; and recruit and supervise interns & volunteers.

This position is also responsible for handling loan processing; acquisitions; the collections database and the museum’s institutional archives.

Full-time; Salary commensurate with experience; 401(k) and employer paid medical & dental coverage after 30 days employment.

Requirements:


Advanced degree with 3 years museum or collections experience;

or BA/BS degree with 5 years museum and collections experience;

or an equivalent combination of education & experience.

Must have knowledge of museum standards & practices for the preservation and management of collections including digital formats.

Prefer a self-starter with excellent administrative skills, proficiency with computer applications, and able to work well alone or as part of a team.
