At the High Point Museum in High Point, North Carolina, we've recently been
having discussions about the best approach for membership renewals.

In the past, we've just sent letters stating the members current membership
level. This year, in addition to the letter stating their current membership
level, we started sending them a membership brochure that shows all the
levels and the dollar amounts. As a result, we're noticing some folks who
used to give at say the $150 level are now giving at the $50 level. We're
not sure if there's a correlation between the membership brochure and the
decrease or not. One thought that has also crossed our minds is that it's
okay if they renew at a lower level because perhaps they might not have
renewed at all if they thought their only option was the higher dollar
amount. (We do have a lot of older members on shrinking incomes).

We're just curious how other museums approach membership renewals and what
they think about the results we're getting.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
