IMLS Calls for Comments on New Native American/Native Hawaiian Museum
Services Grant Program

WASHINGTON, DC - The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is
soliciting comments on the draft guidelines for its new Native
American/Native Hawaiian Museums Services grant program.

The Native American/Native Hawaiian Museum Services Grant (NANH) program
provides new opportunities for improved museum services. This new
program enables Native American tribes and organizations that primarily
serve native Hawaiians to benefit their communities and audiences
through strengthened museum services.

"IMLS' new grant program will support exhibits, research, educational
resources, professional development, strategic planning, heritage
preservation, improved technology, hiring, and more to help preserve and
interpret the rich history and cultural achievements of America's
indigenous peoples," said Dr. Robert Martin, Director of the IMLS. "This
call for comments is an opportunity for the field to help shape the
Native American/Native Hawaiian Museums Services grant program."

The draft guidelines are available on the IMLS Web site at
http://www.imls.gov/grants/museum/pdf/ntams05.pdf
