Dear Listers, Jerrie's post about the melting snow and gunk from visitor's boots reminded me of a museum I visited in Istanbul years ago. One of the house museums, an elaborate Ottoman mansion on the Bosphorus, has a beautiful collection of traditional textiles. At this museum, visitors were given monster slippers that fit over their shoes! These slippers contained the mud and muck from rainstorms and street dirt that could be tracked into the building. Also, the original wooden floors of the house were protected from spikey high heels or other damage from street shoes. A novel approach to the problem!
