Position description
This part-time position is responsible for all elements of content and
design of the
The Webmaster must keep abreast of all new developments
in broadcasting and in Web technologies in order to: 1) advise new content
areas; 2) implement new ways of presenting information; and 3) develop long-term
strategies to benefit the audiences it serves. The individual
will report to the CEO.
Responsibilities
-
Ensure that the information presented to the public on the site, such as news
releases, public announcements, and spotlights on archival collections
are accurate and timely so that the site is valuable and relevant to our
current and prospective visitors worldwide.
- Design and continually develop
new design solutions for the MBC website pages.
- Supervise the
programming of (as well as program) pages in HTML and on the Java platform.
- Stay current with all new and emerging Web technologies and be ready to
evaluate and implement them as required.
- Develop budget, monitor expenses,
and investigate revenue-generating opportunities.
- Lead team development of
custom database applications, including testing and debugging.
- Lead
development, with Applications Support, of any content- and change-management
programs for the website.
- Lead and work closely with Archives staff to
highlight programs in the collection.
- Work closely with Senior Management
in setting policy and strategic planning for the MBC websites.
- Must be
available 24/7 for emergency postings and crisis management.
Qualifications
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of Web programming and website
maintenance.
- Ability to prioritize effectively and to design, program, and
monitor many projects simultaneously.
- Must be a flexible, high-energy
person able to operate with minimum supervision.
- Good human relation
skills in dealing with internal staff, outside contractors, and general public.
- Interest in broadcast media (television and radio).
- Excellent communications skills required.
Education and Experience
- College degree (or
equivalent experience)
- 2-4 years experience as Webmaster
- 5-7 years
experience in Web Site design and programming
- Experience with Unix, C++,
HTML, Java, cgi scripts, Linux, web editors (especially Dreamweaver), and all
web browsers
Salary or
stipend: Commensurate
upon experience.

availability/timeframe:
ASAP
Hours of
Work: Part-time,
15-20 hours/ week.
