I'm posting for a colleague: Curatorial Assistant, Modern and Contemporary Art Museum of Fine Arts, Houston The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston seeks a Curatorial Assistant to support the activities of the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art. This position carries responsibilities chiefly in the areas of catalogue research and exhibition preparation. Specific duties for a major catalogue project include documenting works in the collection; contacting artists and gathering primary materials; maintaining collection files; writing, editing, and proofing texts. Additionally, special exhibition and collection projects require administrative coordination, didactic writing, label production, and occasional lecturing. A curatorial assistant in this department is also expected to maintain contacts within the active Houston arts community. Requirements include an MA in Art History or equivalent; a general historical background in European and American art and photography; and foreign language skills, preferably French. Strong organization, computer, and communication skills necessary. One-year museum experience in curatorial or research desirable.
