You might want to look at some of the old Spanish maps in various university repositories. The California, New Mexico and Texas branches of El Camino Reales were quite often drawn where origianlly there were "old Indian trails" that the Spanish used when they were exploring. Given your location you might be interested in looking into the connection between the "Warpath Trail" that went from the Ohio River Valley to Louisiana and the El Camino Real that went into Texas and then south into today's Mexico.

Subject: Native American trade routes

We are in the process of redisgning our exhibits at the museum and I am trying to create a panel that will highlight the fact that the Native Americans had a viable and thriving trade network long before the Europeans ever came to this continent. The idea in my mind is to have a map of known trade routes made into a wall puzzle of 6-8 pieces (so that the kids actually look at it). I am not 100% set on this idea and can not find a map of the trade routes. Does anyone have a better idea or know where I can find a map? As always thanks for your help.
