Discover how to create great thematic tours at
historic sites in a
one-day workshop for educators, interpreters, curators,
and directors of
museums, heritage areas, and history organizations.
This workshop,
based on bestselling book, Great Tours!: Thematic Tours
and Guide
Training for Historic Sites (AltaMira Press, 2002), will
enable
participants to create a thematic tour for a historic site;
integrate
material culture and historic biography into theme-based
interpretation;
train guides to give thematic tours; and adapt and respond to
various
audience types. Large and small group interactive exercises
will focus
on a case study of a historic site, providing participants
with
practical experience.
The workshop fee of $45.00 includes: a copy
of the Great Tours! book,
handouts, lunch, and refreshments.
Pre-registration is required, and
the workshop is limited to 35
participants-so register early! For more
information about the workshop
or to receive a registration form, send
an e-mail to [log in to unmask].
Staff members from National
Trust Historic Sites are entitled to a 10%
discount.
The workshop will be held at the Homestead Museum
(www.homesteadmuseum.org), located
20
miles east of downtown Los Angeles in the City of Industry, on
Monday, February 9, 2004.
The Great Tours! workshop is
funded in part by the National Trust for
Historic Preservation, the National
Endowment for the Humanities, and
the host organization, and sponsored by the
American Association for
State and Local History and AltaMira
Press.
