Humanities Project Manager

 

The successful candidate for this full time position will be responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating negotiations for a pilot program involving the reformatting of four large National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) exhibitions into smaller versions for a national tour. The Humanities Project Manager serves as a facilitator between ExhibitsUSA (EUSA), all the originating museums, and the NEH and requires the ability for clear, detailed, and timely communication between all parties and the ability to manage a highly visible and diverse program. The Humanities Project Manager will work alongside a national humanities exhibition consultant and will be assisted by EUSA's registrarial, marketing, and administrative staff.  The position will report directly to ExhibitsUSA's Executive Director.

 

Responsibilities include: coordinating all aspects of organizational activity relating to exhibition development, including budgets and timelines; facilitating the reformatting and fabrication of the exhibitions; working closely with freelance and museum curators, lenders, and presenting institutions; recording activities for required NEH reports; and assisting marketing staff with questions related to exhibition contents and tour scheduling. 

 

Qualifications: Candidates should have a Master's degree in museum studies, history, American studies, anthropology, art history, or any other discipline of the humanities; excellent communication, writing, and project management skills; three to five years experience in a humanities museum or related environment coordinating multi-loan exhibitions; and a successful record of project implementation and management. Candidates must also have a general knowledge of museum theory, practice, and operations and be capable of operating in a team-based, multidisciplinary organization.

Assistant Registrar

 

The successful candidate for this full-time position will be responsible for aiding the Registrar in all aspects of registration, which includes updating exhibition databases, administering loans, condition reporting, and creating installation and condition report books for new exhibitions. The Assistant Registrar will also assist in a pilot program involving the reformatting of four large National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) exhibitions into smaller versions for a national tour. The position will report directly to the ExhibitsUSA's Registrar.

 

Responsibilities include: condition reporting, maintaining exhibition records, insuring artwork, preparing installation instructions for exhibitions, creating condition report books, making shipping arrangements for various exhibitions, managing loan agreements, and tracking the condition of objects while they are touring in exhibitions. 

 

Qualifications: Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in museum studies or a related field; a minimum of two years experience in museum registration; excellent organization and oral/written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to manage multiple priorities, with attention to detail; knowledge of museum environmental standards; and ability to travel as needed. Candidates also must have strong computer skills and be capable of operating in a team-based, multidisciplinary organization.
