But does that mean that a 'museum' needs to be audited to ensure every penny/cent IS used in this manner? I imagine that all museums, even those making a 'profit' do plough everything back (we do) , but if we are debating a kind of legal definition, we need to be alert to what happens if an institution retains, lets say 5% of profit, for other, 'Non Museum" uses, whilst still maintaning the highest diligence towards collections, exhibitions, education, acces etc etc etc... It is an interesting thought... PS; Also, just to play Devil's Advocate... why should a museum NOT make a profit? (Assuming it acts impeccably in all other museological apsects of its operation)... Will be interesting to see what comes back on this one!
