The Whalehead Preservation Trust, Corolla, North Carolina, is seeking an Executive Director to provide vision, strategic direction, and overall management of daily operations. Chartered by Currituck County and governed by a 21-person Board of Directors, the Trust is responsible for restoring and interpreting the Whalehead Club (a 21,000 square foot, Art Nouveau-style residence built in the early 1920s), and the surrounding 38 acres comprising Currituck Heritage Park (www.whaleheadclub.org). Annual budget is approximately 1.2 million. The Executive Director will be responsible for planning, program development, operations, fund-raising, fiscal management, and communications. This person will have overall management responsibility for facility planning and operations, museum management, exhibit development, furnishings and acquisitions, construction, historic restoration, and site interpretation. The Executive Director will supervise a full-time staff of 2 persons, seasonal and part-time staff, docents and other volunteers, consultants and contractors. Degree in history, architecture, engineering, business management, museum studies, education, or related field is required. Advanced degree in historic preservation, museum studies, architectural history, or equivalent experience is required. Applicants must have a minimum of five years in the field demonstrating increasing responsibility and a substantial record of achievement. Experience must include museum management, historic site restoration, and/or site management. Salary is $40,000 to $50,000.
