Our museum also has objects in campus buildings. One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet, though, is the need to have weekly or monthly assessment/inventory checks on those items outside of the museum building. By keeping a routine log of checking condition and inventory, this often helps to relieve some of the fears that museum staff would have about loaning works to other buildings.
