As a point of trivia the whole movie was filmed in and around downtown Cleveland and as the P.R. line from the 50's & 60's refered to it, "The best location in the Nation" or as others refered to it in the 70's, "The mistake on the Lake", but lets not get into that whole Cleveland joke scene.

Subject: '50s toys

Two things:

No one todate has mentioned two excellant sources for information on Christmas presents - the mail order catalogs of the period - Sears, Montgomery Ward, JC Penney and others. Along those same lines there have been several soft back books published with toy specific catalog pages. Several are: "The Big Toy Box at Sears - 1951 -1969" ed. Peter Fritz 1997; "Boy's Toys of the '50s and '60s" ISBN 1+887790-01-2; Girl's Toys of the '50s and '60s" ISBN 1-887790-02-0; "More Boy's Yoys of the '50s and '60s" 1-887790-05-5; "The Doll and Teddy Bear".

Secondly, altho "A Christmas Story" was supposed to take place in Hammond, Indiana, the shots inside the department store were taken in Higbee's Department Store in Cleveland, Ohio.
