Janice,

In the early '80s, when I was a curator at the Milwaukee Public Museum, we started the Dinosaur Dash as a fundraiser. The run ran through downtown Milwaukee, starting and finishing at the museum. It was a smashing success well into the 90s.

There also are or were dinosaur-themed runs for Science Place in Dallas and ?Natural History in Cleveland.

The Bay to Breakers run in San Francisco has been a fund-raiser for the California Academy of Science. At least in the past, cartoonist Gary Larson produced a natural history cartoon which was featured on the run's T-shirts.
