Books that were helpful in our building process were: BEFORE THE BLUEPRINT by Peter Anderson--although originally intended for science centers this is a great guide to the nuts and bolts of working with the planning and construction process and working with architects. It gives you good background on process and a familiarity with terminology that architects and contractors use. PLANNING FOR PEOPLE IN MUSEUM EXHIBITIONS by Kathleen McLean- a great guide to the museum exhibition process. Falk & Dierking's MUSEUM EXPERIENCE was crucial to our training and planning for all our staff across the board. Their model of the visitor's experience has held up well since we've been open and is a great introduction to museums for any staff. Good luck on your new museum!! In Coral Gables Florida we are starting a general museum that is a public/private partnership. The museum will be housed in an historically designated WPA building. We have a good start with funding and community suppport and have preliminary plans from an architect. I have a background in museum work and know the basics of good practice. I wonder if anyone on the list can recommend any consultants, workshops, or reading that would be useful as we create a good firm structure institutionally? ========================================================= Important Subscriber Information: The Museum-L FAQ file is located at http://www.finalchapter.com/museum-l-faq/ .
