you will incur two separate costs. one to move the building, and one to restore. they are separate expenses. moving the building will do some damage, that can be repaired during the restoration process. the cost of moving the structure depends on how far you are moving it. i am guessing that the structure is a bit less than 30 feet by 30 feet square. it is not hard to move a small building (house?), but it could cost forty to fifty thousand. of course you will have the expense of preparing the site, foundation etc. to recieve the structure. depending on the intended future use of the structure, and extend of the restoration, you can count on at least putting 100 thousand dollars into the restoration process after the move, but it could be much less if you are only restoring the exterior, and roof, and minimal work to the interior. if it is a historical renovation, seek the advice and council of a specialist in historical ronovation to get accurates numbers for both phases of the project. a reputable historical resoration firm can estimate both aspects of the project more efficiently.

Subject: an impossible building preservation question

Now that I have your attention... :-)

I have been tasked with determining the cost to move and restore a historic building that is scheduled for demolition in our county. And I have only a few days to do it. So, with that, can anyone give me very broad, general idea of what it might cost to restore the following structure (which, as I understand it, without having the opportunity to tour the inside as yet, is in poor condition):

Built in 1927; 2 stories, 1711 square feet; concrete foundation, wood sheath with stucco; built up tar and gravel roof; described on property appraiser's website as "unlivable"; has set empty for a number of years.

Any general "guestimates" or references would be helpful.

  Many thanks,
