Subject: Contractual workers
Does anyone out their manage or know of an institution that hires people on a contractual basis meaning that:
A contractor is hired and paid for their AVAILABILITY(i.e. every tuesday for 30 weeks to give a group a tour) and they get paid regardless of whether or not a group has signed up?
What do you do if that person has a personal emergency (they're sick, family emergency, etc.) since you hired them under with the understanding that they will be paid regardless of whether they 'teach' a group on their 'day'? How do you make it clear that if they have an emergency on a given day THEY WILL NOT GET PAID because they 'broke' the contract in a way, because of the (hopefully) one time emergency?
