The Juneau-Douglas City Museum seeks an experienced museum administrator.  This position is responsible for temporary exhibits, and the leadership, strategic direction, development, management, and administration of the operations and staff.  The Museum is housed in a 6,000 sq.ft. facility, with collections and exhibits in several outreach locations.  The growing collections number 6,000, and include totem poles, artworks, and historical objects interpreting the area's rich gold mining, political, Tlingit, and multi-cultural history.  The part-time staff currently includes a collection/exhibit curator, an education curator, an office assistant, a seasonal office assistant, plus a corps of dedicated volunteers to assist this full-time position.
 
The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of all aspects of museum operation and ethics, plus fundraising, supervisory, budget, community outreach, and board development experience.  The successful employee will enjoy living in a beautiful, yet often rainy, location and working with individuals and groups in a small, dynamic community which hosts the State's legislature and over 700,000 summer visitors. 
Minimum Qualifications include a Master's degree in museum studies or closely related field and two years progressively responsible museum curatorial experience, or a Bachelor's degree in museum studies or closely related field and four years progressively responsible museum curatorial experience, of which two years must have included budgetary, supervisory, and administrative responsibilities.
