Try
www.familysearch.org. I
typed in Buckalew and got a lot of names and a couple different spellings.
May be that will be of help.
Hi friends,
I am hoping someone can steer me into the right direction. I'm interested
in geneology and have helped my mom work on ours and really enjoyed it. My
fiancee is curious about his family history and I decided to take on the job of
finding out where they came from. I've looked online at geneology.com, and have
subscribed to other family history listservs and such and have not had any luck.
So I figure maybe someone on here has the right answer. Here's a bit about his
family:
- His name is David Adam Buckalew (he is the last of 8 children)
- His father was Robert Buckalew
- His mother is Frances Watson (maiden name) - sister named Billy/Billi
(spelling?)
- I know his mother's grandfather was practically full-blooded Cherokee and
there is some story of an adopted family member by the name of "Blue". I can't
remember if this is the Indian grandfather or not. His mom does not have a lot
of family records or such, so I'm assuming most of it is oral tradition.
- Adam heard that Buckalew was Slovic in origin but has yet to find any
information on it. He also heard that the name used to be Buck of Lew/Louve
(spelling), which to me sounds French or Irish/Scottish.
- Most of their family is in Georgia and has been throughout the southern
U.S. for many years.
I know this is sketchy information but this is all I have. If anyone
knows of any other Buckalews or whatever, I'd love to hear about it. I know
spelling has changed through the years as my last name has (Deitze). But I
appreciate everyone's input in advance, thank you!
Your friend,
Gretchen
