The Museum Victoria Collection Inventory System (MvCIS) is a freely
available add-on for KE EMu (www.kesoftware.com <http://www.kesoftware.com>
). It allows users to view and update EMu catalogue records from a handheld
computer (PDA) whilst roaming around your stores and exhibition areas. It
operates via a wireless network, allowing real-time access to collection
data and multimedia resources. Any web enabled device with wireless access
can be used to access the MvCIS - no special software needs to be installed
on your PDA in order to run the system.

The MvCIS has been designed primarily as a tool for collection inventory
management, with special functions for viewing and managing object
locations. If the device that you use to access the MvCIS is equipped with a
barcode scanner, then you can use the MvCIS to record a change in an objects
location simply by scanning a couple of barcodes.

Organisations that don't have barcoded collections can still use the MvCIS .
Even without barcoding functionality, it is still a convenient way to access
and update basic object data and images whilst roaming around your stores
and exhibition spaces.

If you think your organisation may be interested in actively participating
in the development of this system, or you would like further information,
please contact me or visit http://www.emuusers.org/MVCIS.asp
