Director of Education
President Lincoln & Soldiers' Home National Monument, Washington, DC
Job Summary
First, master a thorough understanding of all exhibit design efforts undertaken to date for the Lincoln Cottage (centerpiece of the Monument), then take responsibility for guiding all continuing and future design, fabrication and implementation for exhibits related to both the Lincoln Cottage and Visitor Education Center. Also responsible for developing and instituting innovative educational programming to serve students, families and adults; training tour interpreters; and staffing guided tours. Successful completion of all site start-up responsibilities will result in a diverse offering of exciting exhibits and educational programs for the public. The National Trust intends that the National Monument be a cutting-edge example of what a nationally significant historic site can be in the 21st century.
Qualifications
M.A. in history, American studies, museum education or equivalent from accredited institution. 3-5 years experience in public education and programs for a museum or historic property. 3-5 years experience in managing a staff and/or projects for a new or undeveloped site. Strong creative and analytical abilities. Excellent researching and writing skills. Excellent communication skills - essential for working successfully with project team and consultants. Excellent organizational skills. Familiarity with administering a federally-funded grant or program preferred.
