There is the "Our Lady of the Highways" memorial in I-95 near the Maryland/
Delaware border.  I heard it was installed in response to a multiple-car fatal
accident that occurred there.  It's also been said that they kept it simple so
as not to distract other motorists.  I think the land is part of a religious
organization, a seminary, so it was not a case of someone putting it on public
land.
