Celebrate the History of Queen Anne's County on May 3, 2003 with Tours of Historic Sites, and Special Events Kent Narrows - May is Preservation Month and Queen Anne's County is celebrating with a month of special events and activities. May 3 is the first opportunity to explore the county's heritage, and there are many exciting activities with fun for the whole family. What giant stones grind wheat the Wye Grist Mill, walk through a 17th century home, or enjoy a tea party during this special day when we fling open the doors for you to explore some of our oldest houses, churches, and structures. Visitors and residents can explore the entire span of Maryland's history, and spend the entire day, or just a few hours touring the county and enjoying the many activities and events. WYE GRIST MILL The millers at this historic mill and museum will be grinding Eastern Shore wheat, corn or Pennsylvania buckwheat using the heavy stones turned by the waterwheel. WRIGHT'S CHANCE & TUCKER HOUSE These historic Centreville homes will offer guided tours. There will be a display of historic costumes and textiles at Wright's Chance, and at 2:00 p.m. there will be a tea party at Tucker House. 1652 BROAD CREEK CEMETERY Discover one of the earliest sites on Kent Island, where an archaeological dig will be underway. Interested guests can watch the fascinating process of unearthing history. The dig starts at 8:30 a.m. at the cemetery off Route 8, just south of the Bay Bridge Airport. MUSEUM OF EASTERN SHORE LIFE The museum's collection of artifacts and gems from hundreds of years of life on the Eastern Shore is supplemented by a new display featuring a dugout canoe. The other heritage sites open and offering tours include: Sudlersville Train Station Museum, Dudley's Chapel, and St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
