Hi:

I visited the original farmhouse that now sits in the middle of Iowa State University Campus in Ames. The curator there told me that the most popular activities they offer involve play. She's observed that children and their parents today don't know how to play games the way people living on farms one hundred years ago did.
Simple things like hoops, balls and jacks, cards, and sack races might add a lot of energy to the day. Good luck.
