Dear Museum Listserv,

We are in the process of developing a guided walking tour of Historic Hillsborough, North Carolina.  We are at the point of deciding upon a cost for our tour and were curious what other historic towns or organizations were charging for a similar tour.  Our tour will be between 1 1/4 hrs to 1 1/2 hrs in length and will cover much of our downtown historic district.  The district consists of 18th and 19th century homes and late 19th and early 20th century commercial buildings.  During the tour, visitors have the opportunity to visit an early 19th century law office, a 1865 two-room school building, a replica of a 19th century icehouse and the Orange County Historical Museum.

The company that used to provide tours of the historic district paid its docents $1.50/head and a $5.00 base fee.  We feel we need to keep the same rates for our docents, and yet want our tours to be generating income.

If anyone wants to share with us their prices, so that we know what is appropriate, we would appreciate the assistance.  Feel free to respond off-list if you don't want that information freely known.

Thank you,
