The Alaska Museum of Natural History is seeking a dynamic executive director to provide vision and leadership in opening a new museum facility. Incorporated in 1992 and previously located in a suburb of Anchorage, the Museum is partnering with Anchorage Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. to purchase and renovate a 12,000 square foot building near downtown Anchorage. It will become a cornerstone of the innovative Arts and Cultural District now underway in Anchorage. The Museum will include a classroom, mini-theater, office space, library space, a collections room and over 3200 square feet of exhibit space. 

The Director will be responsible for the long-range development of the Museum, financial stability, overall management and administration of Museum programs, supervision of staff and volunteers, and community outreach. 

The Director will work to secure funding through grants, contracts, operations, and fund-raising activities and to develop outreach services, educational programs, and exhibits.

The Executive Director is responsible to a volunteer Board of Directors.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate discipline, with experience in developing and managing a non-profit organization. The position requires strong communication, leadership, and administrative skills. Experience in public relations, education, grant writing and fund raising will be given special consideration. Salary is open to negotiation. The Board would consider a part-time position in the interim period before the Museum is open to the public. An opening date in 2003 is expected.
