The reason why I don't think that society as a whole don't care too much about museums comes from the museums, and other outlets of the arts and history, being low on the totem pole when it comes to receiving monetary aid. The fastest way that I believe that museums are growing their visitor's list and support seem to fall into outreach/education programs. I have seen so many museums ask and plead for money to stay open and operate. In this world of supply and demand, there just isn't a great demand for more museum workers as you see in healthcare workers, computer technicians, and customer service. Without the great demand, there will be less incentive by society's part to really boost the museum up to the great purpose that it serves.
