The National Speedskating Museum and Hall of Fame is seeking independent and motivated graduate students for two exciting internships in Museum Education. Interns will be responsible for researching and writing a teacher’s guide geared toward Saratoga County’s school children in one of the following two subject areas:

1.     Speedskating and Saratoga County’s history (fourth and fifth grades),

2.     The Science of Movement using speedskating as a model (seventh grade).

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in history, science, and/or education; knowledge of State education standards; knowledge of teacher’s programs; basic understanding of Museum practices; ability to work independently.

Preferred candidates: Preference is given to students who demonstrate a strong dedication and knowledge in the field of Education or Museum Education.

Museum Exhibitions - Winter 2002 or Spring 2003

The National Speedskating Museum and Hall of Fame is seeking independent and motivated graduate students for two exciting internships in Museum Exhibition. Interns will be responsible for researching, selecting artifacts, and writing a script for one of two traveling exhibits about the following subject areas:

1.     The history of speedskating in Saratoga County. This exhibit is targeted toward Saratoga County residents of all ages and may be placed in Saratoga County schools and businesses.

2.     The history of speedskating in the United States. This exhibit is targeted toward all age groups and will travel to various ice rinks and championship races across the country.

Designing the exhibit may become a part of the job description if time and the desires of the intern allow.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in history or other relevant field; basic knowledge of the museum exhibit process; basic understanding of museum practices; ability to work independently.

Preferred candidates: Basic understanding of exhibit design process.

Archives Management - Winter 2002

The National Speedskating Museum and Hall of Fame is seeking an independent and motivated graduate student for an exciting internship in Museum Archives Management. Interns will be responsible for identifying uncataloged archive, manuscript and library holdings of the Museum, outlining a strategy for cataloging these collections, and start cataloging items in these collections. Interns may also be responsible for supervising volunteers.

This is an exciting opportunity for students who want experience dealing with an uncataloged archive, manuscript, library and multi-media collection, and managing volunteers to accomplish a task.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in history, library studies, or other relevant field; basic knowledge of Archives Management; ability to work independently.

Preferred candidates: Students with a strong desire and knowledge in Archive Management; basic understanding of archives in a museum setting; experience working with other archive/manuscript collections; ability to manage volunteers.
