As some of you know, AAM hosted a meeting in August to discuss their role in meeting the needs of small museums. Because the meeting was arranged rather hastily (to coincide with the Standing Professional Committee Council's summer meeting) there was no money available for travel and only those living close by were able to attend. However representatives of a variety of organizations that are concerned with this issue were present, including AASLH, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Virginia Association of Museums, the Small Museums Association, the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums and the Small Museum Administrators Committee. Minutes of the meeting have been distributed on the MuseSmall, SmallMuseumAssoc and SMA-L lists. This meeting was intended to be the beginning of a series of discussions which I hope will continue over the coming year (and beyond) at the various state, regional and national museum meetings. A roundtable has now been scheduled to be held at the Midwest Museum Association meeting in Minneapolis on Saturday, November 16 at 10:45 a.m. I would very much like to hear from those who are interesting in attending the roundtable (it will be open to all conference attendees), especially anyone who are involved in organizations that serve small museums on a local, state or regional level. Also please let me know if you would a copy of the August meeting minutes. janice Janice Klein Chair, SMAC-AAM DIrector, Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, Kendall College [log in to unmask] www.mitchellmuseum.org ========================================================= Important Subscriber Information: The Museum-L FAQ file is located at http://www.finalchapter.com/museum-l-faq/ .
