Museum colleagues: Regarding finding polypropylene shavings to use as snow -- Another great source is your local prosthetic and orthotic companies. These are the health professionals who make splints and braces for people with disabilities (orthotists) and artifician limbs (prosthetists). They use polypropylene and polyethylene a lot for orthoses. But, seeing as how its not distributed anymore and the conservation qualities were rather questionable, I've moved onto shavings and grounds from machining polypropylene. It can be found at machine shops that fabricate for the food industry. Its free and the shops are always amused that I want what they normally toss. It gives both them and me a new audience.
