From the perspective of someone who spent years with small
museums - I agree in part with Jay - except the title is "director." The
duties include curating, fund-raising, educating, administering, janitorial and
light building maintenance. (Security, training, volunteer recruitment
& anything else you can imagine and a lot that you can't.) It is true
that these can be, regardless of the title, among the lowest paid
positions.
