The annual Southeastern Museums Conference Jekyll Island Management
Institute (JIMI) will take place on beautiful Jekyll Island, GA, January 21-28,
2003.
What is JIMI?
An eight-day institute that provides a total immersion environment for
museum professionals with subject area expertise who want to learn more about
general museum administration and operations, and for administrators involved
with new, small or developing museums. The institute will provide opportunities
for participants to learn
management skills through lectures and
participatory exercises. Topics to be
covered include administration and
trusteeship, human resources,
fundraising, law and ethics, exhibits,
marketing, working with consultants,
collections management, archival
management, exhibits, security and
facilities, education and interpretation,
financial management, and
volunteers. Participants will also learn about
their management styles
through tests and activities. Participants will work
on group project
assignments and give presentations.
