FAMILY PROGRAMS COORDINATOR Regular Full Time Position The Asian Art Museum offers an exciting opportunity for a high energy, creative, and resourceful individual to join the Education department staff in planning and implementing a variety of innovative educational programming for the New Asian. The Family Programs Coordinator will be responsible for the conception, development, and implementation of programs for families and youth that enhance their awareness, understanding and appreciation of Asian art and cultures. The Coordinator will coordinate programs for diverse family audiences in daily "AsiaAlive" programs as well as monthly stand-alone programs. The main focus of this position is to increase family audience participation through activities designed to foster intergenerational learning and enjoyment. Examples of Duties 1. Plans and implements daily AsiaAlive programs, including artist demonstrations, hands-on activities, video and reading corners in conjunction with Manager of Public Programs and two AsiaAlive Program Assistants. 2. Researches family audiences in the Bay Area in order to determine potential program design and content; plans and implements a variety of programs using the collections and exhibitions as a resource, including the following: hands-on activities as part of AsiaAlive, monthly family studios, and special family-and/or youth-focused events. 3. Arranges part-time and occasional teachers and presenters as needed, including art instructors and demonstrators, docents, and storytellers. Occasionally teaches some of the programs. 4. Drafts marketing materials for print and web; develops content of occasional family brochures, family audio tours, and other educational materials in print and web for families. 5. Fulfills administrative tasks related to programs, such as scheduling, internal and external communications, contracts with presenters; maintains budget and submits invoices; maintains database of family programs contacts. 6. Represents the museum to community organizations with a family and/or youth focus. 7. Evaluates programs for effectiveness, educational goals, financial viability and accountability, and audience response. Minimum Qualifications · Bachelor's Degree in Art Education, Child/Human Development, Developmental Psychology, Education, Museum Studies or related field. M.A. preferred. · Two (2) years of related work experience including the development and coordination of family education programs. Studio art program experience a plus. Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. · Knowledge of Asian art and culture. Asian language skills desirable. · Demonstrated understanding of: age-related learning styles, intergenerational program design, object-based teaching, and other interactive teaching theories and methods. · Strong administrative, organizational and scheduling skills; detail-oriented. · Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and basic page layout. · Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal skills. · Self starter with proven ability to manage and independently prioritize multiple tasks while ensuring timely, high quality outcomes. · Ability to conceive, develop, and implement innovative programs for families and youth. · Ability to work as a team member with staff, consultants, artists, and teachers. · Ability to display good judgment, problem solving skills, tact and diplomacy at all times. · Ability to actively promote educational programs through the development of positive working relationships both internal and external to the Museum. · Ability to work regular weekend and occasional evening hours.
