None of us should judge this person's inquiry about needing a job as naive or inappropriate.  When you start into suggesting such things, that brings a bad impression on members of this museum list and maybe the profession. Like I have said before, there is still a lingering stereotype among the general public about the elitism (snotty) environment in the museum field. If a person needs help, they need help. One who is very new to the museum field needs good sound advice from decent and intelligent professionals, not our criticisms.Sometimes a person don't really know the right questions to ask and need a little bit of direction. Career counselors don't always help. Who knows, this person who asked a "naive" question may end up taking your job in the future. It has happened before. It is good to respect others, even though what they say may sound "naive" to you.

Sincerely,

Merri C. Pemberton
