TITLE:            Exhibitions Associate

LINE OF AUTHORITY:            Reports to Director of Exhibitions and Artist Services

AREAS OF WORK:

General Description:  Assists the Director of Exhibitions and Artist Services in administering the gallery exhibitions and artist services programs of the Indianapolis Art Center.

Specific Duties:

ž             Administers specified clerical aspects of the exhibitions program (including but not limited to contracts, insurance paperwork, expenditure reports, data collection, creating object labels and ongoing correspondence by mail, email, or phone with artists and other professionals).

ž             Assists in the preparation of gallery-related educational programming.

ž             Gives exhibition tours as requested.

ž             Primary contact for the organization of the Annual Student Show, the Annual Faculty Exhibition, Spotlight On exhibitions, Art Center open exhibitions, exhibitions of Art Center class work and regional/national juried competitions sponsored by the Art Center.

ž             Primary contact for the organization of the artist component of the Broad Ripple Art Fair

ž             Performs alone, or performs with and/or directs the Gallery Technician in performing, exhibition installations and de-installations.

ž             Supervises interns, volunteers and docents as appropriate.

ž             Curates exhibitions and oversees education and artist service programs according to interest and experience.

ž             Other exhibition- or artist service-related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

ž             B.A. in Art History or Art Education or B.F.A. in a visual art discipline

ž             2 years museum or gallery experience similar to listed job duties

ž             1-3 years clerical experience in a professional office environment including facility with Microsoft Word, email and Internet proficiency

ž             Excellent interpersonal skills

ž             Excellent oral and written communications skills

Preferred:

ž             M.A. in Art History or M.F.A. in a visual art discipline

ž             Experience with Blackbaud's The Raiser's Edge or similar Windows-based database management program

ž             Resource or library experience

ž             Art sales experience

  

HOURS:  40 per week minimum (exempt, salaried employee)

 SALARY:  $22000-$27000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience
