DEMHIST, ICOM's international committee for historic house museums, and the Dutch Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN) join in presenting to you DEMHIST's third annual conference in Amsterdam, 14-16 October 2002. The theme is, "Historic House Museums as Witnesses of National and Local Identities." International speakers will present houses from all over the world, and practical issues of great importance will be addressed in workshops geared to fostering participation, and to creating solutions. The workshop issues are: --"The Second Phase of the Categorization Project: Understanding Your House Through Sub-Categories," moderator Rosanna Pavoni --"The Value of the House Museum: How to Deal with Copyright Issues for the Benefit of the House and its Collection," moderator Guido Guerzoni --How and Where to Start When the Problems are Substantial: an Integrated Approach for the Historic House Museum," moderator Tessa Luger --"Rescue of an Historic Museum: Preservation, Restoration, and Destination. How and Where to Start? The Former Grand Museum of Artis Zoo. A Chance for the New Museum-Axis in Amsterdam," moderator Arnould Odding Issues addressed will be explored further in a practical manner during visits to historic house museums, both palatial and intimate. The results of the conference will be published. During the conference, the DEMHIST board and general assembly will meet. All DEMHIST members are eligible to participate in the general assembly; all voting members are eligible to participate in the elections for the 2002-2005 committee officers.
