January 2003 The Asian Art Museum is seeking a motivated and resourceful individual to assist in researching and writing labels and Japan-related educational materials for the opening of the New Asian in January 2003. This is once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a skilled individual to actively support a dynamic curatorial department during an exciting period in the museum's history! The Asian Art Museum holds in trust one of the finest collections of Asian art in the world. With its state-of-the-art galleries, the New Asian will be one of the cultural crown jewels of the Bay Area, and a powerful magnet for art lovers from around the world. The New Asian will showcase the museum's magnificent Japanese collections including rare painted scrolls and screens, ceramics from the 3rd millennium BCE to the present, major Buddhist sculpture, and superb decorative arts and textiles. Netsuke from the museum's extensive collection, not displayed for almost a decade, will once again go on view. An authentic functioning Japanese tea house, hand-crafted by traditional artisans, will be included in the Japanese galleries.
