Hallo Angela, with delay here is my contribution to your question: in 1991 in London has been a conference on studies in the transport of paintings which was accompanied by a voluminous handbook. Organizing institutions were the Canadian Conservation Institute CCI, the Conservation Analytical Laboratory of the Smithsonian Institution, the National Gallery of Art in Washington and the Tate Gallery. Some of the articles were specifically dedicated to the problems of short and longterm shock and vibration effects on works of art, in this context mainly during handling and transit situations. However, I think the problems are principally comparable. I am sure you find something interesting in this publication, at least an extensive "selected" bibliography. The exact title reads: Art in Transit. Studies in the Transport of Paintings. Ed. by Marion F. Mecklenburg. I work with a collection that is housed in a dam. Does anyone know of any studies, articles, books, etc. on long term affects of vibration to museum collections? I appreciate your help!!
