We used to have some board members who obtained their board position because of their presidency of adjunct organizations (such as our amateur photo club, womens' and young-adult's auxiliary, etc.) but in the last 5-6 years we have phased out nearly all ex-officio positions, instead asking serving board members to take on those duties and asking certain city leaders who would be ex-officio to serve on our board. I think the only ex-officio position we have now is that the immediate past president serves one extra year as an "advisor" for the first year of the new board president's three-year term, and since we have now adjusted the path to board presidency so that nobody is coming in cold to that office, that practice is probably going to be phased out as well.
